QUALED - Slovakia

QUALED občianske združenie pre kvalifikáciu a vdelávanje was established in 2007 as non-profit organisation for qualification and education. The organisation deals with education of wide range groups of people, and tries to enrich the educational system by making it more practical. QUALED’s mission is to overcome the public opinion about learning and qualification process being too painful, impractical and mandatory, but voluntary, interesting, enjoyable and utilizable.

The motivation of QUALED to participate in this Partrnership is based on two facts: Firstly, the concept of Supported Employment is virtually unknown among Slovakian entrepreneurs and labour market stakeholders. Secondly, QUALED is currently active in developing initiatives for adults concerning several themes, such independent lifestyle through the use of a great variety of tele-services such as tele-care and tele-health. It is interested to transfer these findings also into training concepts for Supported Employment.

QUALED is working in close collaboration with the municipality of the North-Slovakian town Žilina, especially in a project concerning the acquisition of "social literacy" to public sector staff. It will use the experience from this project to promote the implementation of Supported Employment.

The scheme was finalist in two German nation-wide competitions which support initiatives helping disabled youngsters via instruments of the creative industries (for further information please check the website of the VKA scheme: www.berufsvorbereitung-foerderschule.de  and our Facebook account www.facebook.com/malerwerkstatt .

We run two successful so called “workshops” (“Malerwerkstatt” and “Gartenwerkstatt”) at four special schools which aim at qualifying artists for jobs specifically at special schools, which are offering education and services throughout the day. Simultaneously we qualify disabled youngsters to get prepared for the labor market. We strongly cooperate with vocational schools and training centers and are presented as best practices by several teacher organizations for special schools.

Implementing the training schemes VKA gained vast experience in support mechanisms and instruments for disabled and disadvantaged persons for the labor market. At the time being our success rate for bringing these youngsters into internships and apprenticeships is at more than 75% which is regarded as an extraordinary good result. We work on the creation of strong networks for our students in order to avoid their fall-out of education and society.
